APRIL IS YOUTH SAVINGS MONTH!
We have some fun things going on to get you in the habit! Research has shown that most children form their life-long attitude and approach to money by the time they’re 7 years old. Even if you have kids older than 7, it’s not too late to improve their skills with savings.
We’re celebrating Youth Month with the national theme, “Give a Hoot About
Savings!” coloring contest! Have
your little one color it and drop it off at any MPECU location in April. We’ll
select some winners to receive a $25.00 deposit into their savings! Download the coloring sheet here and drop it off at any branch!
APRIL YOUTH SAVINGS CHALLENGE
Also, during the month of April we’re having a youth savings challenge! To
help reinforce the concept of savings, spending and sharing, MPECU will
match the amount which is deposited into your child’s savings account with
an equivalent donation to a selected charity (up to $500 total). Choose
between Animal Allies, Boys and Girls Club, and Duluth Children’s Museum.
There will be deposit slips at each branch to fill out!
THE ONE YEAR PENNY CHALLENGE
For each day of the year, have your child save the equivalent amount of change. Start on Day 1 with $0.01, Day 2 with $0.02, all the way to Day 365 with $3.65. It’s a fun challenge which turns savings into a fun game (and math lesson)!
SAVE BY THE MONTH CHALLENGE
Challenge your child to save the dollar equivalent of the month. Save $1 in January, $4 in April, $12 in December, etc. It’s an easy challenge as they’ll only have to remember to save a certain amount in each month.
